This is based as closely as I could make it on a home built in 1927 then remodeled in 1980's.
It is a basic mid-Atlantic '4 by' style, four rooms up, four down. Rooms are about 15 foot square with twelve foot ceilings downstairs and ten foot ceilings upstairs. In remodeling ceilings were lowered enough to hide inside plumbing pipes and heat ducts that had to be added. 2 rooms were narowed to become 12x15 and a hall way and bathrooms were added. Attic storage room was converted to a game room. As a bit of local history, the odd little fence around the porch roof is present on many local homes of that style by their builder as a safety precaution, to keep children/teens who kept climbing out on the slick metal roof trying to sneak out from falling off. Later the little fence made a handy spot to tie down and mount seasonal decorations. It looks nicer if you dress it up in better wall papers inside but I left it the way it really is, mostly plain painted walls and bare wood floors.
